A google hangout is an online platform for communication of 2 or more people. Within a Google hangout, participants can converse via video chat, instant message, SMS, and VOIP. Access a Google hangout through either Gmail, google+ or by downloading the smartphone app.  All options require an account with Google (such as a Gmail account or a Google+ account).

The video chat function is available for up to ten users in each hangout.

Chat histories are saved online for later viewing and can be synced to any device after logging back onto your Google account. Users can send emojis and pictures through the messaging feature. Pictures will be automatically saved to a private album on the user’s Google+ account.

The calling feature is free as long as the recipient is also a Google hangout user.
