BIOME 2024 is delighted to host Drs. Tessa Andrews and Robin Greenler, with Evangeline Su as the keynote presenters, who will discuss their work in faculty support during this time of change and opportunity for STEM education. Participants can also expect numerous opportunities to attend workshops and poster sessions to listen and learn to what their peers are doing in their work. This is a unique opportunity for faculty to expand their network and be part of a community of like-minded individuals advocating for current and future STEM educators.

Teaching through water: A Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER) faculty workshop

Improvement of General Education Life Science (IGELS) Courses Survey
Faculty like you, who teach undergraduate life science courses to non-science majors, play a vital role in our society. We greatly value your perspectives, and we need your help! The IGELS project, through an NSF award (2126154), is investigating what impact the biology education report, Vision and Change (AAAS, 2009), has had on select life science/biology instructors. We hope you can help. Take a brief survey that will help shape adequate and relevant professional development opportunities for General Education Life Science (GELS) course instructors. Summer of Nanopore Sequencing 2024 hosted by the DNA Learning Center (DNALC) and Oxford Nanopore 
The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) and Oxford Nanopore are working together to adapt nanopore sequencing for use in education. The DNALC’s popular DNA Subway is currently being redeveloped for full mobile use, including a new line for nanopore sequence analysis. Workshop participants will be the first to test this streamlined approach for combining MinION sequence data with the DNA Subway pipeline–providing DNA sequencing and analysis any time, any place, by anyone. The workshop is taking place around the US and workshop participants will receive a $300 stipend. Learn more here.

Master Class in Teaching Math Modeling for Life Sciences 
Hosted by the Department of Mathematics at Harvard University, this workshop is designed for faculty members interested in launching a new life science modeling course that would be an alternative to calculus within the next couple of years. You will learn to use modern computational tools to teach calc in a rigorous, modeling-centric way (e.g., Jupyter notebooks), develop your syllabus for a new modeling course to fit your own institutional context, dig into student thinking by looking at student work on assessments, and observe students building the concepts by watching colleagues teach Mathematical Modeling course at Harvard's Summer School.
