A modular scaffold for designing an introductory seminar using speculative fiction and science papers to welcome university undergraduates to the biology major. A list of twelve possible topics is included, such as Memory, Parasites, Aliens, Synthetic Life, and Immortality.

An Introduction to Revealing Hidden Figures through Data Sleuthing (BCEENet)
In this introduction to hidden figures in natural history collections (NHCs), students will read an article that gives a unique historical perspective of museums and will then participate in a reflection (written and discussion-based) on hidden figures in NHCs.

SABER East abstract submission 
SABER East 2024 is taking place at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY on May 29-31, 2024. The goal of this meeting is to bring discipline-based education research, scholarship of teaching & learning, and evidence-based practices to current and future practitioners. Data Science Projects call for participation
The Data Science Projects (DSP) are brought to you by the National Student Data Corps (NSDC), hosted by the Northeast Big Data Innovation Hub. The NSDC DSP provides virtual collaboration and networking opportunities for data science learners of all ages, skill-levels, and education-levels. Participants find team members, learn data science tools and techniques, and find leadership and professional development opportunities with support from NSDC Project Mentors.
The NSDC Data Science Projects Call for Participation Form will be accepting responses on a rolling basis throughout December 2023 and beyond. When your submissions are complete, please share your file(s) with nsdc@columbia.edu.
Become a MCC Fellow
Applications for the 2024 MCC Fellows Cohort are now open! Click here for more info and apply.
The MCC Fellow is a special designation for experienced MCC faculty. Faculty will be recognized as an MCC Fellow for their experience in teaching MDH CUREs and their support of other faculty interested in teaching their undergraduate laboratory courses as an MDH CURE.
The MCC Fellows Cohort is a two-year program for faculty interested in creating an MDH CURE and becoming a MCC Fellow.

Bioenergy Research and Education BRIDGES case studies
New resources and 2024 Office Hours are available to help educators incorporate the Bioenergy Research and Education Bridge (BRIDGES) Program into their classroom curricula! The U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) and Idaho National Laboratory (INL), has developed a free bioenergy case study-based education curriculum that should take at least three classroom hours to complete. New edition of Lessons in Conservation, NCEP’s open-access online journal
Kick off the new year with a new edition of Lessons in Conservation, NCEP’s open-access online journal. Volume 13 features five student-facing educational resources that support learners to contribute to the scientific process, collect data, and analyze and model existing datasets in the same ways that some communities and scientists do as part of conservation research. ASK-BIO Workshops
ASK-BIO Network, The Advancing Assessment Skills in Biology Network, is a faculty development initiative for under-resourced institutions funded by the National Science Foundation (RCN-UBE 2018322). The goal of the ASK-BIO Network is to support Biology faculty in improving question writing and assessment development. They have developed a series of workshops to help support faculty in developing aligned and reviewed assessments. Visit their workshop page to see the schedule for 2024 workshops.
